Course Description This workshop will work on developing a physical vocabulary of emotions without words, using the body as the tool for communication. We will use exercises in isolation, eye contact, audience interaction, extremes of emotion, and exaggeration of circumstances. The last part of the workshop will explore comedic character through the use of archetypes in fairytale. A Course Outline The format of the workshop will be broken into four sections: Warm Up Warm ups will include physical, vocal and some light cardio to get our bodies moving. With exercises for mobility, range of motion, coordination. We will also work on physical and vocal expression of emotion through the face and body. Group Game/Exercise Games and exercises to improve group dynamics, quick thinking, eye contact, and creativity. The intent is to get students out of their heads and into their bodies. Improvisation Games Beginning to work with characters: physicality, vocals, intention, motivation, and checking in. Group improvisations involving several students around a theme. Focus will be on audience contact, making strong choices, listening to responding to other performers, and the beginnings of character development. Character/Story Exercises Using known fairy tales, students will break into groups to create an impromptu improvisational performance, given an agreed upon set of guidelines.
